Providing Educational Opportunity in Nevada

The Nevada System of Higher Education, comprised of two doctoral-granting universities, a state college, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research institute, serves the educational and job training needs of Nevada.

The chancellor is appointed by the ║┌┴¤═° to serve as chief executive officer for the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). She supervises the eight NSHE presidents and ensures the ║┌┴¤═° polices are implemented throughout the system. As chancellor, she is the System liaison with the governor, state legislators, and other public officials and community leaders.

NSHE provides educational opportunities to more than 106,000 students.

2023 Legislative Summary

The Nevada System of Higher Education 2023 Legislative Report is a summary of legislative activity from the 82nd Session of the Nevada State Legislature. This report is intended to provide an overview of impacts to NSHE and its eight institutions.

ad hoc Committee on Higher Education Funding

The ad hoc Committee on Higher Education Funding began meeting in November 2023. Additional meetings will be held monthly through August 2024.

SNAP Employment and Training Program

NSHE, in partnership with the Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services, is a contract partner to provide the components necessary to assist Nevada SNAP recipients interested in pursuing education.

DACA and Undocumented Students

NSHE and its eight institutions remain committed to DACA and our colleagues throughout the country in urging Congress to find a permanent solution to maintain the residency status of DACA students.

Academic and Student Affairs

The Department of Academic and Student Affairs is responsible for overseeing a variety of critical systemwide functions and processes involving academic programs, policy development and student services at all NSHE institutions.

Legal Affairs

The Office of the NSHE General Counsel provides legal services to the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), its ║┌┴¤═°, and institutions of the System. The Legal Affairs office also oversees NSHE Human Resources, Risk Management, and Retirement Plan Administration.

Public Affairs and Advancement

The office of Public Affairs and Advancement is responsible for government affairs, communications, diversity initiatives, and community outreach. This department assists and supports the development of System-wide initiatives, ensures targeted messaging, and serves as the chief advisor for governmental affairs, policies, strategies, and analytics.

Responsive, Reliable, Resource

System Computing Services (SCS), a division of the Nevada System of Higher
Education (NSHE), provides the Shared Digital Services that are the backbone of
delivering quality higher education in Nevada and connecting over 200 sites
statewide to the Internet, to digital resources, and to each other.

Shared Digital Services lower costs and enable a broader range of service offerings through collaboration, standardization, and effective governance. SCS plans, implements, manages, and supports Shared Digital Services and continually develops those services to better serve Nevada.
